Well, we’re ready to go.
The pantry and freezer have been stockpiled:
And a good thing too, because my water broke about 3 1/2 hours ago!
I had a delicious nap on the floor of the loft. When I sat up I felt a little damp, and when I stood up, well, gravity did its work. It wasn’t torrential, but it was enough to feel fairly certain that this wasn’t an everyday occurrence.
Johnny was in the shower, so I went and told him my water had broken. No contractions yet, but just this surreal feeling of something pretty important happening. He also thought that he ‘might change his plans for tomorrow’.
We called the midwife to let her know, and she said that if contractions don’t start within 12 hours they’ll probably induce, as there is some risk of infection once the ‘bag’ is open. Otherwise, try to sleep through as much as we can, because tomorrow will be a big day.
We had our last ‘2-person dinner’ in our dining room, and the contractions are starting to be a little stronger. Apparently we’ll know when we’re in active labour because I won’t be able to talk through them. Or type, presumably. In the meantime, we’re finishing up a final few things (such as blogging and Facebook, obviously) and trying to wrap our mind around the next day or so.
We WILL keep this blog updated as often as possible, but please don’t take it personally if we don’t respond to emails or phone calls for a little while!
In the meantime, here’s the last pic of me, just a couple hours ago, suuuuper huge, water broken, and getting ready to go!
