My strange child has the most peculiar – and annoyingly finicky – food preferences. She loves salmon eggs, Japanese ‘natto’ (fermented soybeans), black olives, capers, and pine nuts. But when it comes to more run-of-the-mill foods, such as toast or apples, you never know what her response will be. The only foods that she will predictably eat are yogurt and cheerios.
Until recently, she wouldn’t have anything to do with ketchup. And suddenly, after watching me, she ‘gets’ it, and the potato wedge becomes little more than a vehicle…..
