Tomi’s First Girlfriend September 22, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — oshikagang @ 5:57 am

Today we had a playdate with Tallan and his new sister Elisa, who’s about 6 weeks younger than Tomi. As you can see, he was quite taken with her:

They bonded by staring at the ceiling. I think Tomi appreciates her sense of humour – and fashionable hairstyle.

“I think your pink sleeper really compliments your eyes.”

As you can see, they really hit it off…

… and by the end of the playdate they were holding hands.

Ahhh…. young love.

We don’t take nearly as many pictures of Tomi as we did of Aili, poor guy.
But here are a few from the last few weeks.

That kid has some FUNNY hair. It’s curly little ringlets when it’s wet, but dries wavy and gets puffy. Sometimes he looks like Kramer. Sometimes he looks like this:

Don’t believe him. He’s a lover, not a fighter.

Quite a good natured little kid, in fact!

Fun times on the playmat!

Well, I suppose ‘fun’ is in the eye of the beholder……

In Tomi’s world, worms fly in the sky:

That’s our boy! Getting stronger, bigger, happier … and cuter with every passing day.

Thanks to our sleep consultant Dawnn, Tomi is becoming the loveliest little sleeper, just like his big sis. These days he’s sleeping 12 hours through the night, with one ‘dream feed’ just before I go to bed.

My question is, however: how on earth did he manage to turn himself 90 degrees?

Speaking of the big sis, she’s a pretty darn good sleeper herself.
We’ve often wondered, however, why there’s so much racket during the night. You see, one side of her crib slides up and down, and it rattles slightly within its tracks. So we figure that if she happens to bump it, it makes sense that there would be some noise involved. But we hear it rattling a LOT, and couldn’t figure out why.
I’ve got it figured out now:

Yup, she sleeps with her face AGAINST THE BARS. So everytime she moves, the crib rattles!
Crazy kid.

As we do every year, we ended the summer with a trip to the PNE! The PNE is always fun, but everything has an extra degree of delight when you get to see it through the eyes of a child.

First stop: the petting zoo. “Big ‘orse.”

Stopping for a quick drink.

We played the game where you throw darts at balloons to get a prize, but for our little balloonophile, the balloon WAS the prize!

What’s a trip to the PNE without a little junk food? Here’s an unusual treat: french fries and ketchup!

“Daddee eat it.”

Upward and onward…….

Well, not literally upward. We offered her to try one of the simple, easy kid rides, but her response was a very unequivocal NO. She was pretty overwhelmed by the environment.

But she loved running around among all the people and watching the games in action. Johnny will have to wait a little while till Tomi’s old enough to go on the rides, I think.

And where WAS Tomi while we were cavorting, you ask? Why he was at home, being babysat by Grandpa!

Grandpa! September 5, 2009

My dad came for an unexpected visit to see the kids. It was his first meeting with Tomi!

And, as you can see, it was enormously successful:

Aili loves Grandpa too. Here they are sharing some cherries:

Because it’s such a great place for toddlers, we hopped into the car and took off to … you guessed it! Maplewood Farms!
The more she sees them, the braver she gets.

Watching, observing, contemplating, considering….

… Success!

Look at that brave girl!

And back to the bunnies. Little Ms. Bossy: “Mama pet raddit.”

Grandpa and Tomi hung out with the ‘raddits’ too.

Feeding the ducks.

Proud Grandpa:

What We Did This Summer

Filed under: Uncategorized — oshikagang @ 6:18 pm

Where have the weeks gone? Suddenly it’s Labour Day long weekend, the rains have returned, and I have an urge to purge the tank tops from Aili’s closet to make space for her autumn wear. The days just fly by, and the kids are growing and changing too quickly to measure.

So what HAVE we done this summer?
Well, we went to a party and had lots of watermelon:

We went to the beach and Daddy built a sand castle!

Aili, however, was afraid to touch the sand. (HOW ON EARTH DID WE PRODUCE SUCH A TIMID CHILD???)

By the end of our visit to the beach she did in fact play with it a little bit, but she wouldn’t let it touch her feet.

We went to Maplewood Farms with Mommy Group!

For some reason, Aili is afraid of sand, but not of bunnies:

And when Mommy touches the baby goat first, then she isn’t afraid of goats either:

We went to the playground with the neighbours, who aren’t afraid of anything. Go Zoey Go!!

And now… Go, Aili, Go!!!

Tomi went on the slide too:

He was so delighted by this that he fell asleep and slobbered all over Daddy:

So Daddy took him on the big slide, just to see what he would do. (Answer = slobber more.)

We even took a short but lovely trip down to Tacoma to see our cousins. Not only are they fun, but it’s a real vacation: tv, chips, and a red balloon! Wait 15 years and this photo will include pedicures, hair dying, and gossip about boys.

Speaking of the junk food we never get to eat when we’re at home, Aili got her first taste of chocolate milk. She downed it, without coming up for air even once, until it was gone gone gone.

Cousin Sophie was much more ladylike about the whole chocolate milk affair.

And Tomi fell in love….

… twice.

It’s been a great summer!

Family Photo Shoot September 4, 2009

We recently met a lovely lady named Michelle who took some great photos of our little family. She’s working on a photography business; you should check her out!

We can’t decide which pics we like the best, so here are a whole bunch of them, in no particular order. Enjoy!
